Barrow in Furness Cricket Club

Cricket Case Studies | 17/06/2018

Barrow in Furness Cricket Club first considered installing a cricket practice facility in conjunction with
Chetwynd School back in 2015 but this fell through when funding applications failed. Early in 2017 the club considered the installation of a triple bay facility in the North east corner of the ground but it became apparent that this would impact on the boundary for some of the strips n the square so a double bay was decided upon.

After discussing plans with a number of suppliers with ECB approved systems it was decided that the Premier system and the overall design layout and content from Verde Sports (Cricket) would be the
most appropriate. Works initially started in late November 2017 but were cut short by flooding in the North West which also brought to light drainage issues with the chosen site that needed to be addressed prior to works commencing.

Works finally got underway in the dry in June and the club decided to move the facility closer to the trees and further into the bank at the rear. With the proximity of the trees a root barrier/french drain was constructed along two sides of the facility to prevent future root damage. Two Premier system batting ends were installed along with bowling ends all surfaced with Superverde, plus Verdegrass surround surfacing to provide an overall area of 30.00 x 8.00m. The run ups were lifted and regarded to fit to the new surface levels and an 18.30 x 7.32 x 3.60m frame installed with 2.3mm knotless netting.

The finishing touch of a wrap around batting screen was fitted to elbows inside each lane, with added safety features to prevent injury.
