Corbridge Cricket Club have recently completed the installation of a brand new triple bay fully enclosed practice facility to replace the old double lane facility that they had prior. Corbridge situated some 16 miles West of Newcastle on the banks of the river Tyne has suffered over recent years with increased flooding which has led them to proactively look to facilities that can resist the effects of climate change and local flooding. This type of flooding had caused significant damage to the base formations of there previous cricket nets which led the club to discuss with ourselves and other accredited installers the options open to them. Through a consultation process Corbridge Cricket Club decided that Verde Sports two ECB approved cricket systems represented the best options for the club both in terms of performance and for longevity. By installing our aggregate based systems it has meant that should the unfortunate event of future flooding to the site occur we can reinstate the base in a matter of days. This is contrary to some of the other systems on the market that would need complete removals in the event of damage.
Corbridge Cricket Club are somewhat of innovative club who look to maximise the space available to themselves, evidenced by their very modern and imposing pavilion. Utilising space was paramount to the install and so alongside the club we re-orientated the facilities in the south west corner of the ground. Additionally to this with a thriving junior and senior sections it was important that the facilities could be used on match days without interrupting the play out on the square. So we proposed and installed an elongated net structure with drop nets and a back net to enclose the facility. The clubs main request also was to provide a facility that was suited to all abilities and via their own research they asked for a “Double Pad” System. However following discussions and after understanding the merit of all the options, it was agreed we would provide a combination of both our Premier (Double Pad) and our Test Match (Double Aggregate) systems. The Premier would provide the even levels of bounce and pace suited to juniors whilst also offering greater spin and seam, whilst the Test match would provide the performance similar to that of a traditional square, adjusting with the wetter or drier weather (wetter in the case of this season).
The works began in earnest in March and where not without delays due to the horrendous weather that was much of Spring 2024. The installation team were blighted with standing water and pools for much of the process, often having to install materials at a much slower rate to avoid disturbing any prior works they had completed. However after an off and on process that took nearly 8 weeks the final installation was completed. Proudly opened on a wet evening in MAY by Paul Collingwood MBE, we at Verde Sports hope that Corbridge Cricket Club get maximum use and value out of these facilities for many years to come.
