Getting Stapleton Cricket Club Ready for Spring 2025!

Cricket Case Studies | 15/10/2024

Stapleton Cricket Club in Bristol commissioned us to update their practice facilities in situ at their ground. Their existing facilities incorporated a two-bay concrete pad and batting cage with members running from the outfield into the nets. Therefore, the club’s wish was to update these facilities while offering some differences between the two lanes. With our view always being on sustainability but also understanding the scope of the project for the club, we proposed reinvigorating the outer concrete lane and building a bespoke aggregate lane alongside it. This would give the club the desired differences without becoming too prohibitive in costs.

Considering that a concrete pitch will always play fast and skiddy, it was proposed that we install a “Premier” system in the other lane. This would allow for a slower but more consistently performing lane that should allow players of all abilities to find a concrete environment to practice. One of the other notable issues was the levels across the site, with the existing concrete facility sitting up to 5 inches above the outfield in places. Our brilliant contractors at Cover Solutions expertly graded the site to match up the two playing strips before tapering the surrounds down into the field to leave the facility looking integrated into the site.

Finally, with wildlife prevalent in the area, we installed two gates to stop foxes from entering the nets and a wraparound vermin skirt to keep them from eating through the netting. This decision was made during the installation as the install team reported the prevalent fox issue in the area. Working alongside the club, we found a solution that should help maintain the facility in excellent condition for many years. All that was left to do was hand over to the customer and let the site settle for winter, ready for Spring 2025.
