Hawkstone International 2014

Verde Racing News | 10/03/2014

This Weekend saw the First outing for the Verde sports racing team at the well known Hawkstone International circuit
With the track prepped well and the weather holding off, the day created great racing for the Fans.

Qualifying:
It was a tough start to the day with Mathew Callaghan struggling to put together a couple of consistent laps.
Finishing the session 19th. The team remained upbeat, although they all knew that he had his work cut out against the
stacked class of World class Riders.

MX2 Race 1:
Mathew lined up for his first competitive race in the pro class since making the move up from the rookies last years.
He rounded his first corner mid pack, slotted into a rhythm and set about fighting his way through to a impressive
10th Place finish for the Verde Sports Racing Team.

MX2 Race 2:
Once again Race 2 saw him mid pack at the first corner.  This time Mathew knew what Level he was up against
and was confident that he could catch a good few of the guys in front of him and he set about this from the start.
With just another two laps, Mathew felt he could have improved upon the 11th place finish that secured him a race in
the Superfinal.

MX1/MX2 Superfinal:
As Mathew lined up for the Superfinal, he knew he would now have an even tougher task on his hands.  Not only would
he ride against some of the fastest 250 guys in this race but he would be competing against some of the fastest 450 guys
at the same time.  Parts of the track had become very gnarly but Mathew stuck it out coming home 19th overall and the
11th 250 to finish.   Overall the weekend went exceptionally well for both Mathew and the team, providing some
excellent results to build upon ready for the season opener at Landrake on the 16th March.  Here Mathew will be lining
up in the Pro MX2 Class for the first time in the Maxxis British Championship.
