Verde went with just one rider, there was no MXY2 at this
round so young Dominic settled for winning the BYMX back home in Dunns,
Scotland.
Brad Anderson still had a dodgy knee, from the heroic
performance he put into get top step and the podium at the British GP. He
needed more time for it to heal before he heads out to Czech for the next round
of the EMX300 European Two Stroke Championship. Brad has never missed a British
Championship since he started racing and that’s a long time ago. He won his
first British 9 years ago……… so he was gutted.
So it was Todd Kellett representing the team alone.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Deep sand is not usually Todd’s bag but he actually loves
Dessert Martin, who doesn’t. He couldn’t get to grip with the bike or the track
in qualifiers and this showed on his timing. He ended up with 21st
gate pick which wasn’t a good start to the day.
RACE 1:
Todd got a pretty good jump out the gate but got a little
squashed out on the 2nd bend, pushing him back to 12th.
He was feeling good and soon pulled through to 9th chasing hard
behind Lewis Tombs. The track was so liney and it became an unchangeable race.
Todd just couldn’t find a way past Tombs, Knight couldn’t pass Brad Todd, Gilbet
couldn’t pass Spinks, Pocock couldn’t catch Barr and Conrad Mews had checked out
up front. So Todd Kellet #98 finished 9th in race 1
RACE 2:
Todd got another fantastic jump out the gate, came round the
bend in 3rd and by the first jump he was loading up front and
pulling a gap. Luck didn’t go his way and the race was red flagged. However on
the re-run, Todd got yet another mega start and came round in 4th.
The pressure was on. First Conrad Mews got passed to go upfront (kind of
expected). Todd held onto 5th for a good few laps until Josh Spinks
found a way past and pushed Todd back into 6th. It was hot, dusty,
very rough and rutted. Todd tired a little towards the end and Micky Eccles
took advantage of the situation leaving Todd to finish 7th in Moto
2.
OVERALL:
So Todd went 9-7 for 6th overall. Some excellent
starts, some good sound riding. All in all a good positive day. Todd has now
moved up to 10th place in the Championship with 4 more rounds to
go.
QUOTE FROM TODD KELLETT:
Steady
progress from Desert Martin, P9 & P7 for 6th overall! Nice to lead the race
for a lap before the restart, track never fails to impress
QUOTE FROM TEAM MANAGER ADRIAN
KIRK:
It was good to see Todd get out the gate and lead the race, even
if it was red flagged. Shame Ando wasn’t
racing, but it was a sensible decision to make until we have got his knee fully
accessed and strong.
