GREAT START TO THE SEASON AT ROUND 1 OF THE BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS
REVO BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS – R1 – OAKHANGER – 19th March 2023
The first round of the Revo British Motocross Championships took the team down south to Oakhanger. The new venue on the calendar had a Dutch feel to it with technical deep sand and a great layout through the trees. This year will see both Jake and Bailey compete in the MX2 Class onboard the new KTM SX 250 2 Stroke.
PRO CLASS:
JAKE MILLWARD:
QUALIFICATION:
Jake soon found his flow around the sandy circuit, putting himself in second place on his first quick lap. He had a couple more attempts at moving up the leaderboard but couldn’t quite find the little extra he needed. P2 is where Jake would end the session - a great start to the day.
PRO RACE 1:
Jake got a great jump out of the gate coming around the first turn in fifth place. Jake soon found his rhythm and as the laps went by he moved himself up to third. A couple of mistakes half-way through saw Jake drop back down to sixth but he would manage to regain one place before the chequered flag.
PRO RACE 2:
An even better start for Jake in race two saw him exiting the first couple of turns in second place. Jake found his flow lap after lap and was settled a few seconds back from the leader. In the latter stages of the race he dropped down to third place, which is where he would stay to the chequered flag.
OVERALL:
P5-P3 for third overall. A fantastic start for Jake at round one of the British Championships. Great qualifying followed up by two solid race results.
Quote From Jake Millward:
Overall a very positive first round! Excited for the next round at Canada Heights as its one of my favorite tracks.
BAILEY JOHNSTON:
QUALIFICATION:
Bailey got straight down to business with his qualifying and at his second attempt found himself 19th on the board. He tried to better that a couple of times but struggled with a bit of arm pump, so this is where he would stay, still a solid start in the first qualification of the year.
PRO RACE 1:
Bailey got a fairly decent start in race one, seeing him move into the top 15 coming around the first turn. Midway through the race after a couple of mistakes, Bailey dropped down to 17th place, but with determination towards the end moves his way up to 14th at the finish.
PRO RACE 2:
Race two saw Bailey get a much better start to exit the first couple of turns inside the top ten. Struggling to find his flow early on saw Bailey drop down to 17th place at the mid-point of the race but he was able to make up two places by the chequered flag.
OVERALL:
P14 – P15 for 14th Overall. A solid start to Bailey’s season, putting in two good solid result that he can now build on at round two.
QUOTE FROM TEAM MANAGER, ADRIAN KIRK:
Really good start to the season for both riders, and we’re proud of both of them today. It was also great to go to a new venue. We’re looking forward to seeing what they can both do at the next round at Canada Heights in a couple of weeks’ time.
