R5. MX Nationals - Hawkstone Park - 7th August 2022

Verde Racing News | 08/08/2022

ANOTHER SOLID WEEKEND FOR THE TEAM

MICHELIN UK MX NATIONALS – R5 – HAWKSTONE PARK – 6/7th August 2022

Despite being down to one rider, Verde Shiloh KTM have had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend at Hawkstone Park for the Michelin UK MX Nationals. The weather was glorious, the paddock was laid out impeccably and the track was spot on and in prime race condition.

MISSING TEAM MATES UPDATE:

Jake Millward is still recovering from his bad crash at the last round of the MX Nationals, where another rider collided with him, ultimately leaving his collar bone with multiple fractures. Jake has since had his collar bone plated and is on the road back to racing. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had sufficient time on the bike to make a comeback this weekend but he is hopeful to return to Pro Racing before the end of this year’s race season.

Kyle McNicol is still recovering from his horrific car accident a few months ago. Kyle has made a magnificent recovery and joined the team last month at the British Championship to sign autograph posters and edge his way back into the racing fraternity. He has still to throw his leg over a bike but in the meantime, he has spent a tremendous amount of time focusing on his fitness and physical well-being.

REMAINING RIDER UPATE:

Bailey Johnston…. Our sole rider for the weekend. This season we have entered Bailey into the Expert MX2 Championship for this particular series. The plan was to enable Bailey to gain sufficient confidence in the MX Nationals to smooth his confidence riding with the Pro’s in the British Championship. However, Bailey too has suffered a groin injury earlier in the season which saw him miss a couple of race meetings and set him back with niggling issues whilst getting back to full fitness.
Unfortunately time lost during race season is crucial to any rider and although today Bailey rode awesome, he didn’t finish where he would have expected to have been since at the beginning of the season.

RACE REPORT - BAILEY JOHNSTON – EXPERT MX2 - MX NATIONALS

Bailey was pretty consistent throughout the weekend. He qualified 6th and then continued to gain 6-6-7-6 to give him a 6th overall for the weekend. He now sits 6th in the MX Nationals British MX2 Expert Championship. In all 4 moto’s Bailey didn’t have great starts which is quite difficult when in a mixed class of 250cc & 450cc MX Bikes. This meant that the first half of the races he had to undertake unnecessary battles but the second half of all the races saw his style push through which enabled him to close places. His performance showed that he has determination, style and an ability to flow with the track. For the next round we may move him up to the Pro Class to give him more hunger and a greater challenge.

QUOTE FROM BAILEY JOHNSTON:
Decent weekend, too many mistakes and bad starts led me to not very good positions.

QUOTE FROM ADRIAN KIRK:

Bailey road really well all weekend with solid consistent lap times in all of the races. Starts where not great but something we can work. All in all a good weekend.
