What a fabulous way to
finish off the racing season. Verde Substance
KTM headed down to Weston-Super-Mare to take part in Weston Beach Race for the
first time. Two of their team were
competing. It was the first time young
Dominic Lancett had raced in any Beach Race and he was debuting in the 3 hour
main event on his new 2019 KTM 250 SXF.
For Todd Kellett however, it was one of his many appearances at Weston
and he was out this year to defend his No 1 Plate after winning the last two
years in a row. The 21 year old, was
competing on a 2019 KTM 350 EXC.
The weather at Weston was
fabulous, Sunny and warm with a crowd of over 83,000 people. The main event had 1001 entries, lasted 3
hours on the Sunday afternoon, and took place on a specially created 7 kilometre
track on the beach front. It was epic.
TODD KELLETT
Kellett got an excellent
start, took the hole shot and thundered down the start straight out front. For the first few laps, Kellett shared the
lead with Billy Bolt and Mel Pocock, but by lap 5 Kellett took to the front and
he managed to stretch out a two-minute lead by the end of the race, to take his
3rd victory in a row. 21 year
old Todd Kellett is only the 3rd person in history, to ever win the
event for three consecutive years. It is
20 years since this last happened.
After a troubled start to
the season, fighting to recover from a back injury, this final result meant the
world to Kellett, the team and his family.
Congratulations Todd.
DOMINIC LANCETT
This was Dominic’s first
ever beach race and he was out to race on his new KTM 250SX-F. A big beast compared to racing his 85 SX all
last season. Dominic is keen to progress
and decided to go straight into the gruelling 3 hour, Adult Solo race, aged just
16. He crashed 4 times on his first lap,
as he struggled to get the hang of this unusual event, which left him sat back somewhere
over the 100 mark. However, once he
settled and found his stride, he pulled through and managed to finish 24th
out of the 1001 riders. An awesome ride
for young Dominic
ADRIAN KIRK, TEAM MANAGER
What a fabulous
event. So many riders and so many people
watching who just dirt weren’t bike riders.
Plenty going on, well organised.
A thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
So pleased for both riders.
Dominic rode his socks off. He
was disappointed with his results but for his first beach race he had an
excellent race, which made us proud to have him on our team. Kellett… well what can I say. To win Weston Beach Race for the third time
in a row, at just 21. An amazing achievement. He has had a tough year and it was a pleasure
to be involved in helping him achieve this victory once again this weekend.
